The Indian government has recently subsumed all its indirect taxes into a single tax called Goods and Service Tax (GST) which will come into effect on 1 July 2017. This new tax will effectively replace the Indian Service Tax (IST) and will be applicable to all goods entering and leaving Indian territory at a rate of 18% (in spite of the 15% levied under the old IST).
